The Department of History and Political Science administers four Foundation scholarships for its majors. Applications open every spring.
Fay Bullock Scholarship
Open to all undergraduate HPS majors and graduate students enrolled in the MA History program. Academic achievement, financial need, and relevant extracurricular activities will be considered in making the award.
Lawrence M. Evans Memorial Scholarship
Open to HPS juniors and seniors, who have a demonstrated financial need and are enrolled in a semester course load of 15 hours or more. Award, preference goes to students who plan to pursue a career in teaching.
Nathan & Virginia Gordon Scholarship
A memorial scholarship established by Dr. Larry Evans, his family and his friends for sophomores, juniors or seniors majoring in a program offered by HPS. Preference goes to Political Science majors. Academic achievement and need will be considered.
T.A. Dulaney Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the estate of Nathan and Virginia Gordon. Recipients shall be junior or senior political science majors who have a minimum 2.0 GPA and are in good academic standing.
Paper Prizes
Nominations for the following awards should be made to the head of the Department
of History and Political Science. by March 15 every spring semester Students may nominate
themselves.
Angelo & Rosa Denova History Prize
A monetary award ($250) presented annually for the best graduate-level history paper.
Carolyn Neel Prize
A monetary award ($100) presented annually for the best history paper or project by a Public History or Geography & Anthropology major.
David W. Krueger History Prize
A monetary award ($100) presented annually for the best history paper by a History major.
Maria A. Petit de Márquez History Prize
A monetary award ($100) presented annually for the best history paper by a Social Studies Education major.
Priscilla Harriett Miller Utne History Prize
A monetary award ($100) presented annually to an HPS major for the best paper in world history.

Thomas A. DeBlack Award
A monetary award ($200) presented annually to a deserving graduate student in the MA-History program.
